The Mimi behind the canvas.
Linda Lutz started painting about 5 years ago. Today, at the age of 73, what started as a fun hobby has blossomed into a colorful journey. Her vibrant paintings stand as an example that it is never too late to pursue a new adventure.
Linda always loved art and art class in elementary school was one of her favorite subjects. That is until she wasn’t allowed to participate anymore- her teacher explained ‘you aren’t any good and the materials will just be wasted on you’. Crestfallen and taking those harsh words to heart she never attempted art again choosing instead to love it from afar cutting pictures of Monet’s paintings from magazines and hanging them on the walls of her room.
After a career as as a social worker, mom to four great kids and later as a realtor and boutique store owner, Linda’s artistic awakening came in retirement in the form of a gift of a small box of pastel chalk. She started drawing and hasn’t looked back.
Although she loved the soft look of the pastels, she had a desire for more vibrant colors so she began to experiment with acrylics. Linda’s work is influenced by her love of the Caribbean. The colors of the sea and sky and the vibrancy of the Caribbean people and their lifestyle can be found in most of her paintings.
The main focus of her paintings is to offer an escape to the islands and capture a feeling of being on a beach somewhere.
Linda gets up most mornings at 4 AM and can’t wait to get in to her studio (which is really her youngest sons old bedroom that she has converted to a studio). She turns on her space heater, pops a pod in her Keurig and gets to painting.
